MakiBox Pellet Extruder First Looks

This is the weekend project that has been hinted at for a while, and it will be plugged in and putting out hot plastic tomorrow.

The mechanism is nice and compact, and should be usable both as a standalone filament maker and for driving the material for the MakiBox printing.

This is going to make the MakiBox the first printer that is able to use raw plastic pellets and also, in the near future, recycled plastic from water bottles and similar sources.

I'll post up more details tomorrow, time to head home for the night.

Did you know this : http://desktopfactory2012.istart.org/

Very nice, it is very small, will this be available as an option or ...
Now a way to dynamicly change the color it outputs....and you have a color 3D printer

Nice, can't wait to get one of those.

Yep, but I had been working on this before the contest was announced.

This will be integrated in, even for the first supporters.

Well perhaps it can generate some extra capital for you..
But that depends a bit if you want it to keep as a feature of the Makibox.
Nevertheless, good luck Jonathan with the Makibox.. it is fun following the project progress...

Either way, we will spin out a separate filament extruder after wrapping up the MakiBox. Based on what we have so far it would be possible to sell it for less than the target BOM cost the contest is aiming for and still make a healthy margin.
